Investment analysis

The market for Super Tuscans such as Solaia demonstrated clear resilience through the 2022-2025 broader fine wine correction, and Solaia was one of the best performers even within this category.

Now firmly in more encouraging market conditions, Solaia has already shown evidence of price appreciation, with our index now sitting +8.3% above its August 2025 level.

Why we recommend this wine?

  • Consistent critical acclaim: Jane Anson awarded Solaia 2019 an impressive 98 points, with 97 from both Vinous and The Wine Advocate.

  • Longevity: Built for long cellaring, Solaia 2019 has a drinking window that critics extend through to 2050. That gives the wine a long horizon for both enjoyment and collectability.

  • Performance track record: Solaia has a robust record of long-term price appreciation, and since late 2025 Super Tuscans have been at the forefront of the fine wine market’s recovery, with Solaia itself appreciating +8.3% since August 2025.

The 2019 Solaia is fabulous. Deep and exquisitely layered, the 2019 is so expressive right out of the gate. Succulent dark cherry, plum, licorice, incense, pipe tobacco, chocolate and grilled herbs all take shape. Here, too, the aromatics are alluring. Cabernet Franc is bumped up a bit in the blend, and that works so well here. Solaia is often a bombastic, intense wine. The 2019 is incredibly refined and buttoned up. Readers will have to be patient. The 2019 Solaia is the sort of wine I would like to spend a whole evening with.

Producer profile

Solaia is produced by Marchesi Antinori at Tenuta Tignanello in the Chianti Classico hills, from a 20-hectare, south-west facing vineyard on rocky alberese and galestro soils. The name means “the sunny one”, a reference to the site’s exposure and the ripeness and concentration it brings. In 2019 the blend was 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Franc, with the share of Cabernet Franc doubled in response to the season, before 18 months in new French barriques. Solaia stands alongside Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Masseto and Tignanello as one of Italy’s most prestigious fine wines.
